Event Description for Comedy Show

Published on

The Laughbowl is an event co-programmed between the Student Committee of the Arts at UCLA and Shenanigans Comedy Club. It will be held on February 8, 2019 at the Kerckhoff Grand Salon, a venue with a capacity of 150 people, from 8:00pm to 10:00pm.

Participating schools will send three comics to be selected by the respective school, for a total of twelve comics. UCLA will have three non-competitive comics to open for the competitive portion of the event, in addition to three competing comics. Including the host set, there will be a total of sixteen sets.

Comics performing will be limited to three minute sets, and will be lighted at the standard one minute remaining. Content won’t be censored, but please keep it clean–this is a college campus, and it’s probably in the comic’s best interest to not offend.

The event will be judged by a panel of three comedy industry professionals, who will select a winner out of the twelve participants. Though pending, the prize will most likely be a chance to perform at the Hollywood or Irvine Improv as part a ComedyJuice show, a group that puts on shows at these venues. Before the winner’s name is released, the judges will host a twenty minute panel during which participants and audience members can ask questions about the comedy industry.

Refreshments will be provided for participants and judges. Audience admission to the event will be free. Attendees from visiting schools are welcome to bring as many outside audience members as they wish.

Lodging and transportation will most likely not be provided for visiting schools, but if these are deal breakers, they can be discussed.

This should be fun! I realize Times New Roman isn’t the most expressive font, but I’m excited to meet other college stand-ups.
